Passport Services and Your Child

As a parent, you can learn if a U.S. Passport has been issued for your child by contacting the Department of State. If the court has determined that you have sole custody of your child, or that your child is prohibited from traveling without your permission, a request for a new U.S. passport for your child may be refused.

In order to help protect your child from an international abduction, request to enter your child’s name into the State Department’s Passport Issuance Alert Program. This enables the Department to notify you if an application for a U.S. passport for the child is received anywhere in the United States or at any U.S. embassy or consulate.
