Lucinda, founder of Designs by Lucinda, started making and selling pins in the shape of a house when she was homeless. The pins enabled her to escape from homelessness and poverty, and she now uses the pins to help others do the same. She sells pins to people like Joan B. Karlin of Los Altos, who agree to donate all funds raised to a non-profit organization.

Joan has been selling “Woman Pins” for the past 12 years. When she found out about the Support Network and its programs this year, she decided to raise money for battered women and their children by selling these special pins. So far, she has raised over $1,500 for the agency, while at the same time she has raised awareness about the Support Network and its mission.

When Joan began selling pins, she wore a special vest with pins attached. People stopped her in the street to ask about her beautiful “buttons,” giving her an opportunity to talk about the pins and the programs they support.

“I sell pins no matter where I walk in the community,” says Joan. “It has been an absolutely upbeat experience and opened doors for me as a person. Selling Lucinda pins accomplishes so many positive things!”
